Ex-Library copy with number on paper label on spine and light pencil number on copyright page plus "gift of." on the next page, plus 2 square inch blacked out area on last free page. "Thomas McKean Philadelphia" on the page before the title page. "Subscription Copy No. 357 is on the page before the title page. The number was hand written. On two blank pages before the "Contents" page are two newspaper articles "Obituary" (March 17, 91) and "The Career of a Soldier (March 17, 1891) Death of Emlen N. Carpenter, Who Saw Much of Southern Prisons". These two glued in newspaper articles caused some darkening where they lay on the adjacent page but this does not distract from the history or text of this nice book. (E. N. Carpenter is listed in the Index, giving four page listings.) Covers are rubbed red paper with the spine being nice green cloth with perfect gilt lettering. Top of pages are gilt and the other two edges are rough cut. BEAUTIFUL MAP showing the marches made during the years, 1862 (in green), 1863 (in yellow), 1864 (in red) and 1865 (in blue). SCARCE.
