He sat as the Whig Member of Parliament, and later served as the Governor of Gibraltar. Containing information from missions and employments with the European armies in the campaigns of 1812, 1813, and 1814, from the invasion of Russia to the capture of Paris. From the personal notes of not only an experienced general but also a British politician during the events of Napoleon's disastrous retreat from Moscow.
