Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Used copy of 'Buchan' by the Rev. John B. Pratt. This is the 1858 first edition, published in Aberdeen by Lewis and James Smith, and in Edinburgh and London by Blackwood & Sons. It is a hardback, with embossed green boards, gilt lettering on the spine and no dustjacket. It contains a number of black and white tissue-covered illustrations throughout. The head and tail of the spine and the corners of the covers are bumped and worn. The covers are marked and the spine darkened. The exterior spine joints are worn. The page edges are browned and dustmarked. The pages are browned, with the odd reading-related crease and fingermark. The front free endpaper and frontispiece are missing, so the first 'page' is the tissue, then the title page. The inner hinges have cracked, but are still attached by the linen. The spine is shaken but still holding at the endpapers. Internally, the top binding stitch is detached in places, and the pages are creased by the binding edges (presumably as a result of too-tight stitching). Those defects aside, this is an extremely scarce title, the contents are clear and legible and, with the exception of the front matter, the contents are all present and correct, so Fair overall. Approx. 4 1/2 x 7 inches. Images available on request.
