Hand coloured title page, privately printed for George Zabriskie. George Albert Zabriskie (1860-1954) was President of the New York Historical Society from 1939-1947, and Honorary President from 1948 until his death in 1954. He was a great enthusiast of fine books and book binding, and an expert amateur hand-tooler and finisher of books. Though he lived in New York City, he "wintered" in Florida, and issued these charming Christmas keepsakes from his home: "The Doldrums" a Mission-Spanish Revival residence designed by Albert Pierce. A wonderful little piece on Stradivarius. 16pp. Approximately 7 inches tall. Condition Report Externally Spine good condition gilt titles, two gilt decorated raised bands, gilt decoration. Joints good condition gently rubbed and worn. Corners good condition very minor wear. Boards good condition full leather boards with gilt titles, gilt borders and gilt violin decoration to the centre of the upper board and a gilt centre piece on the rear board, minor rubbing and marks. Page edges good condition all gilt. See above and photos. Internally Hinges good condition sound. Paste downs good condition beige silk within decorative gilt dentelles on leather turn-ins, GAZ is stamped in gilt along the bottom edge of the front paste down. End papers good condition beige silk with some offsetting from the dentelles. Title good condition hand coloured illustration, very lightly tanned.
