Modest shelf wear, cloth flecked on portions of spine panel, rubbed at base of spine, light soiling to cloth, small hole to cloth along lower rear joint. Modest binding lean. Text block edges somewhat dulled by age, but interior is clean, and binding firm. xvi,302 pp., illus. w/ engraved plates, + publisher's catalog at rear. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. 8vo, 282 pp plus Second part, i-xcvi, frontispiece, portrait of Robert Collyer, 13 full page plates, folding geological map, illustrations in the text. Original green decorated cloth, top edge gilt, a very good bright copy. Pencil signature of Dr Robert Collyer of New York dated 1903 on the reverse of the front free end paper, presumably a relative of the first author. Also a presentation inscription from Yorkshire botanist F A Lees to his father dated 1888. Lees wrote the section on botany in this book forming pages xxxi - lxi. Part 2 of this work covers geology, botany, fauna and early remains.

Written by Robert Collyer, an American Unitarian clergyman, and Joseph Horsfall Turner, an English antiquarian noted for his work on the Victorian and Edwardian periods. With contributions from various other authors. In the original full cloth binding with gilt. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and the odd small mark to the boards. A small puncture mark to the spine causing a minor split to the cloth. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot and minor age toning to the extremities. Very Good.
