Spine extremities worn; textblock loose at hinges. Interior reasonably clean â" text leaves toned with light foxing typical of mid-19c wood-pulp paper; hand-colored plates remain bright with original watercolor coverage intact (red, yellow, blue, pink garments and grey architectural washes all clearly readable). No tears or losses visible. The publisher's back-matter advertisement for C.B. Taylor's Pictorial History is present and intact. dark brown / black with blind-stamped foliate ornament.

Formerly of the Westminster Theological Seminary Library with their bookplate at front and a small ink numeral stamp to recto of front illustrated title page. Soundly bound copy lacks the front free endpage; basic library type tape reinforcement to spine with crude title letters in manuscrip to tap spine. Cloth seems complete under tape. Boards rubbed with abrasion and mild fray at corners; boards peeking through cloth rubs over the top and bottom edges. Issued with an extra, engraved title page and illustrated with over 20 woodcuts on full page plates. Expected light toning and occasional mild soiling to pages. Sound and complete; reabcking suggested. Uncommon mid-19th century American anti-Catholic tract compiled and edited by an author with close relationship to the American Tract Society. Good only thus.

Condition: Fair. Published by C. Sparry, 1847. Spine appears to have been repaired neatly, now solid black with a new name label embedded. Some spots on the embossed front cover are worn. Hardback, 256 pages, no highlighting or underlining. Front and rear pages have some discoloration/foxing, but all in all amazing shape for the age of the book.
