First Edition
Half Calf, Marbled Boards. Condition: Very Good Plus. First Edition Thus. 1769 or 1770. Folio, 36 by 24 cm. 682, [10] pp. 67 copper engravings, including frontis and three maps, two of which are folding. With four page list of subscribers, appendix and index. Also engraved headpiece, first page of text. Page 225 has smattering of ink stains, and one margin tear, and facing 224 with single small ink stain -- nothing, though, is unreadable. Small hole affecting three leaves (pp. 235 to 240), with a letter to three letters affected per page. A few other small stains in the book, but generally the leaves are clean, even remarkably so. Plate facing 596 with margin chip and small closed tear. Pagination of page 410 rendered as "401". Joints repaired. Spine calf cracked and somewhat chipped. Nonetheless, contemporary binding remains handsome, and this is overall a very lovely, and complete, copy of this magisterial work on London.
