Heinrich Rheinstrom completed this work in Paris in May 1939, in cooperation with Konrad Wolff. Both were Jewish German lawyers who were expelled soon after the Nazis came to power. This book is a detailed report on the new legislation and legislative amendments which came to effect after the establishment of the Third Reich. The author does not forget to mention the numerous laws, decrees, directives, guidelines, and regulations enacted between 1933 and 1939 which increasingly restricted the civil and human rights of the German Jews. Wrappers and pages moderately age-toned throughout. Text in French. Wrappers in overall good, interior in good+ to very good condition.

Erste Ausgabe. 2 Blätter, 73 Seiten, 2 Blätter. Das weiße Vorsatzblatt mit einer handschriftlichen Widmung des Autors an Dr. Murphy, datiert Paris, 3.4.1939. Das Buch behandelt am Beispiel des Suezkanals die Meerengentheorie, die Gebietstheorien, sowie nationale und internationale Kanäle und das Vertragsrecht. Heinrich Rheinstrom, später Henry Rheinstrom (1884 - 1960) wurde 1906 mit der Dissertation `Die Kanäle von Suez und Panama` in Würzburg promoviert. Nach 1909 führte er in München eine Kanzlei für Wirtschafts- und Steuerrecht und verfasste auf diesen Gebieten zahlreiche Publikationen. Im Ersten Weltkrieg als Offizier mehrfach ausgezeichnet, war Rheinstrom ab 1916 Honorarprofessor an der TH München sowie Aufsichtsratsmitglied bei Industrieunternehmen und Eisenbahngesellschaften des In- und Auslandes. Von 1923 bis 1926 gehörte er dem Vorstand der Jüdischen Gemeinde München an. Nach der Plünderung seiner Kanzlei durch SA-Männer im März 1933 kehrte er von einer Auslandsreise nicht zurück. Am 14. April 1937 wurden er und seine Familie vom Deutschen Reich ausgebürgert. Bis 1939 führte er gemeinsam mit Frederick Alexander Mann und Alfred Werner eine Anwaltsfirma in Paris und London. 1936 bis 1939 lehrte er Internationales Recht an der Freien Deutschen Hochschule in Paris. 1939 floh er mit der Familie weiter in die USA, wo er in New York City als Wirtschaftsjurist und Aufsichtsratsmitglied amerikanischer Industrieunternehmen arbeitete.
