In his youth he was a member of The Ancients, a group of followers of William Blake. Later in life he established a career as a portrait painter, which included painting the portraits of the British gentry, nobility and royalty. Size is 183mm x 115mm. Condition is good. The letter to Canon Jacob confirming he had received the letter from the Secretary of State and Justice had been done. Charles Henry Gordon-Lennox, 6th Duke of Richmond, 6th Duke of Lennox, and 1st Duke of Gordon, 1818-1903, styled Lord Settrington until 1819 and then Earl of March until 1860, was a British Conservative politician. Provenance: From the family of autograph collector Emily Mary Rose Lee (1869-1949), wife of Colonel William Crawford Walton (1864-1937). Emily was the daughter of William Lee, Professor of Ecclesiastical History at the University of Glasgow from 1874 to 1886, and granddaughter of John Lee (1779-1859), Principal of Edinburgh University from 1840 to 1859. A letter congratulating him on an accomplishment of J Horsley. W B Richmond 1842-1921 was a British painter, sculptor and a designer of stained glass and mosaic. He is best known for his portrait work and decorative mosaics in St Paul's Cathedral in London. John C Horsley 1817-1903 was an English academic painter of genre and historical scenes, illustrator, and designer of the first Christmas card. Size is 150mm x 100mm. Condition is good. A letter confirming a meeting with Robert Campbell a doctor. Charles Gordon-Lennox, 5th Duke of Richmond 1791-1860 was a British peer, soldier and prominent Conservative politician. During the Battle of Waterloo (1815) he was aide-de-camp to the Prince of Orange, and following the latter's wounding, served as aide-de-camp to Wellington. He was chiefly responsible for the institution in 1847 of the Military General Service Medal for all survivors of the campaigns between 1793 and 1814. Size is 183m x 110mm. Condition is good.
