Hardcover: H 18.25cm x L 12.25cm. Fine binding of full dark green leather although with spine sunned to a muted brown; some rubbing to boards which are decorated with double thin-ruled gilt border lines; spine has five raised bands delineating six compartments of which second and third from head have gilt lettered title and author respectively; spine's other compartments with gilt stamped flower vignettes with "1891" gilt stamped at heel; some scuffing at spine ends; tiny gilt stamped dots rubbing along edges of boards; overlap dentelle edges have two gilt border lines as well as dot-lines plus floral devices at top and bottom fore-edge corners. All edges gilt. Blue marked endpapers; front and rear free endpapers have bands of toning at their edge margins caused by the opposing dentelles. Foxing to interior leaves; copyright page has unfortunate modern purple ink handwritten notation "(1853)" [indicative of the first year CRANFORD was published in book form]; no other such markings readily apparent upon a quick perusal. Binding is firm. Still a handsome very good copy.…
