Internally VG. Top of title page- signature in ink of Caspar Morris (1805-1884). Morris, son of Israel Wistar (1778-1870) and Mary Hollingsworth (1776-1820), a descendent of a prominent seventeenth-century Philadelphia family, received his M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1826. He helped establish the Pennsylvania Institute for the Blind, Protestant Episcopal Hospital, the House of Refuge, and the Protestant Episcopal Church of the Epiphany. His oldest son, James Cheston Morris (1831-ca 1923), mother Ann Cheston (1810-1880), received his M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1854. He was a physician with the Foster Home for Children, Moyamensing House of Industry, the Episcopal Hospital and served as contract physician for the Union Army (October 1862 August 1863).
