Robert S Lowrance, Jr. had previously published a fine volume. The author's unique background (both he and his wife are fine musicians) should prepare us for the music which is in this collection of poems. There are pleasing surprises at the end of many of the poems, building up to a nice climax with the final explanation or challenge and the concluding choice of words. Some of the poems are particularly touching reminiscences of childhood.Readers of the present volume will be greeted by an even more polished and varied group of poems which goes with the further developememt of this poet."--John Ransonm Lewis ; Contents: A bestiary -- A cloudy day -- Alenda lux ubi orta libertas -- A new birth -- A perturbation -- Arachne -- Art catalogue -- Autobiography -- Cat nap -- Chauvinism-- Did you ever -- Dust-devils -- Echoes -- Fish bait -- Flight 007 -- Hospital -- How groes my love -- It takes us all -- Japanese cherry -- Leaves -- Love's hold -- Mirages for sail -- My old home -- Nostalgia -- One day -- Ontogeny recapitulated -- Peggy Mitchell and Boys' High Class of 1924 -- Phoenix -- Please pass the baby -- Polyphemus -- Remembered -- Resurgens -- Ships and seas -- Superstitions -- The ceramic cherry-picker lamp -- The digs -- The flight of the arrow -- The landing -- The least I could do -- The making of a champion -- The quest of a writer -- The relentless tide -- The search -- The seasons -- The Weavers of Weaverville -- Times and tides -- To a very special friend -- To the sixth graders of Montgomery Elementary -- Travels -- Treblinka revisited -- Tricolor -- What did she say -- What is a poet -- Where does love end -- Whisperings of the rain forest ; SIGNED presentation by author on endpaper ; paper defect in front endpaper ; FINE/FINE. Hardcover. Condition: New. 1st Edition, Limited Edition. Lopen, Somerset: Fulgur Press, 2022. NEW - From the Publisher (see images) : "Deluxe Issue of 69 Copies Only, Signed by the Contributors in Full Pigskin. Top edge gilt in Silk Chemise, Fleece-lined / Slipcase. Custom endpapers from @paperwilds ooze and flow, taking their cue from the colour palette of the principal text and self-portrait by Spare. The scale and quality of work make this something of a beast. N.B. This is the largest book we have yet produced (15 inches by 10 inches) and it matches the original format of Spare s 1913 edition of The Book of Pleasure - There are few works in the life of Austin Osman Spare as notorious as his illustrations for Krafft-Ebing s Psychopathia Sexualis. First documented in the early 1930s by the socialite Viola Bankes, Spare shared various anecdotes about this commission with friends and acquaintances until the end of his life. However, drawings of a directly sexual nature remain surprisingly scarce in the artist s oeuvre, despite his reputation for producing erotica. Recent biographers have even cast doubts on Spare s anecdotes, noting Krafft-Ebing died long before the young artist became widely known. The discovery of the Psychopathia Sexualis folio in the archives of the Kinsey Institute is therefore a major milestone towards reclaiming and understanding the life story of the artist. Working closely with the team at the Kinsey Institute, FULGUR PRESS is pleased to offer you the first publication of this masterpiece of the grotesque. Edited by Ryan M. Pfeiffer, Rebecca Walz and Robert Shehu-Ansell, this book reproduces the forty-four portfolio drawings in astonishing detail, drawn from hi-resolution scans made directly from the original artwork. These extraordinary works by Spare have been augmented with a preface from Rebecca Fasman, curator at the Kinsey Institute, an introduction detailing the discovery by Ryan M. Pfeiffer and Rebecca Walz, and illustrated analytical essays from Elijah Burgher, Jeremy Biles and Robert Shehu-Ansell". First Edition Deluxe/Limited/Signed. Hard Cover/Full Pigskin/T.E.G. New. Illus. by 53 colour | 5 black and white. Elephant Folio - over 15" tall. Heavy, Oversized Safely, Securely Packed.
