This uncommon 1953 reprint of the scarce 1881 novel by Colonel William Clark Falkner (1825-1889), grandfather of Nobel Prize winner William Faulkner (1897-1962), features a marvelous Introduction by Newsweek magazine literary editor Robert Cantwell in which he reviews the life of Colonel Falkner and the literary and historical background of THE WHITE ROSE OF MEMPHIS as well as the novel's intriguing autobiographical parallels.
