    1. Aufl. Surrealism arose during the period between the two World Wars and became one of the most influential artistic and literary movements of the twentieth century. Profoundly marked by the senseless experiences of World War I, the Surrealists, under the leadership of André Breton, took off on a passionate search for freedom in all of its forms. By incorporating the subconscious into the creative process, they developed completely new forms of expression. Simultaneously, they invented radically new ways of exhibiting their art. This presentational tradition is carried on in both private collections and public museums to this day. Featuring exemplary works by prominent Surrealists-from Salvador Dalí, Max Ernst, and Joan Miró to René Magritte, Yves Tanguy, and Meret Oppenheim-the reader will experience characteristically Surrealist modi operandi as well as Surrealist strategies. It is not only contemporary artists who find sources of inspiration and contemporary references in Surrealism. (Original-eingeschweisstes Ex. - verlagsfrisch! / new - in original wrapping) Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 1100 OPappband (mit Schutzumschlag) / Hardcover (with dust-jacket).

Hardback. Condition: New. 2010 ed. Wafer-scale integration has long been the dream of system designers. Instead of chopping a wafer into a few hundred or a few thousand chips, one would just connect the circuits on the entire wafer. What an enormous capability wafer-scale integration would offer: all those millions of circuits connected by high-speed on-chip wires. Unfortunately, the best known optical systems can provide suitably ?ne resolution only over an area much smaller than a whole wafer. There is no known way to pattern a whole wafer with transistors and wires small enough for modern circuits. Statistical defects present a ?rmer barrier to wafer-scale integration. Flaws appear regularly in integrated circuits; the larger the circuit area, the more probable there is a ?aw. If such ?aws were the result only of dust one might reduce their numbers, but ?aws are also the inevitable result of small scale. Each feature on a modern integrated circuit is carved out by only a small number of photons in the lithographic process. Each transistor gets its electrical properties from only a small number of impurity atoms in its tiny area. Inevitably, the quantized nature of light and the atomic nature of matter produce statistical variations in both the number of photons de?ning each tiny shape and the number of atoms providing the electrical behavior of tiny transistors. No known way exists to eliminate such statistical variation, nor may any be possible.

Hardcover. Condition: New. Surrealism rose from the ruins of interbellum Europe to become one of the most influential artistic and literary movements of the twentieth century. Under the leadership of Andrà Breton, Surrealist artists undertook a passionate search for "freedom in all of its forms," delving into the imagery and language of the subconscious through the revolutionary methods of automatism, radical juxtaposition and chance. Surrealism in Paris reproduces a spectacular selection of artworks from the Fondation Beyeler's exhibition of the same name. Featuring key paintings, sculptures and works on paper by Hans (Jean) Arp, Hans Bellmer, Salvador DalÃ, Giorgio di Chirico, Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst, Alberto Giacometti, Renà Magritte, Man Ray, Andrà Masson, Joan Mirà , Meret Oppenheim, Francis Picabia, Pablo Picasso and Yves Tanguy, and essays by a host of renowned scholars, this substantial catalogue revisits a crucial moment in French cultural history.
