This American scientist garnished worldwide fame in 1982 when the artificial heart he designed (the Jarvik-7) was first implanted. Bold "R. Jarvik MD" in black ballpoint with heart shape drawn below on a heavy stock 5" X 3" card, dated by him December 1986 at upper right. Fine. With original transmittal envelope, postally cancelled in Salt Lake City on 22 December 1986. Accompanied by an unsigned glossy head-and-shoulders portrait of a young smiling Jarvik holding a Jarvik-7. Fine but for small stain at lower left.
