Wilson, was a Scottish biblical scholar, translator and Church of Scotland minister. An expert on Gnosticism, he was the Professor of Biblical Studies in the University of St Andrews from 1978 to 1983. "This book is concerned with the character of Diaspora Judaism and its relation to its environment, and with the influence exerted by each upon the other. This book includes some discussion of the Qumran documents and a preliminary survey of two Coptic Gnostic texts, e.g., the Gospel of Truth." [from the dust jacket].
