Fort St. Charles was constructed by Pierre Gaultier, Sieur de la Verendrye in the summer of 1732 on present day Magnussen Island in the Lake of the Woods, near what is now the Northwest Angle of Minnesota (and the northernmost point of the lower 48 states). This history of the Fort is extremely rare, especially in this first editon. OCLC shows only five known copies of the first edition.
