The contents include information on Erwin H. Ackerknecht, Thomas Rogers Forbes, Robert Burton, Psychological Healing, Medical Malpractice, War of 1813, Penicillin, Chemotherapeutic, and William Shippen. Robert Unruh Massey MD, was born in Detroit, MI on February 23, 1922. He attended the University of Michigan School of Medicine, and received a degree in Medicine in 1946 from Wayne State University College of Medicine. Dr. Massey completed his internship and residency and was an assistant physician at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. In 1950 he was a physician in the Department of Medicine at the Lovelace Clinic. He was Chairman of the Department of Medicine between 1958-1968. He was instrumental in the establishment of the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and was a clinical associate at the school from 1962-1968. In 1959 Dr. Massey and The Lovelace Foundation, along with NASA and the Lovelace Clinic, developed and administered an extensive series of tests for the first Americans in space, the Mercury Astronauts. He was Chief of the Medical Service at Fort Myer, VA 1955-57 and left the military service in 1957 with the rank of Major in the Medical Corps, United States Army Reserve. In 1968 Dr. Massey became the third dean of the School of Medicine at the University of Connecticut and held the position from 1971- 1985. During his 14-year tenure as dean, the medical school received its first accreditation. An internist and endocrinologist, Dr. Massey was long interested in the broader issues of health care and was an articulate spokesman who also wrote prolifically on the science and practice of medicine and its implications for society. Dr. Massey was the editor of the Journal of the History of Medicine and Allied Sciences from 1987 - 1991. Dr. Massey was a fellow of the American College of Physicians.
