Contact seller5-star sellerFour books from the research library of world-renowned expert in soil dynamics and earthquake engineering, Robert V. Whitman. Whitman earned both his masters and doctoral degrees in engineering from MIT where he then taught for over 40 yearsand remained an active member of the MIT community for many more years as a professor eme…ritus. Whitmanworked with Professor Donald Taylor during his doctoral studies. Their work on slope stability under dynamic loading established the basis for the "Newmark sliding block method" for estimating earthquake-induced ground displacements. In 1981 he presented theTerzaghi Lecture onrisk analysis in geotechnical engineering at theAmerican Society of Civil Engineer's National Convention. He won theTerzaghi Award for outstanding contributions to knowledge in the fields of soil mechanics, subsurface and earthwork engineering in 1987. Much of his later research focused on amethodology for estimating losses from earthquakes and he led the committee that developeda computer software (called HAZUS)which FEMA expanded to include floods and hurricanes. Taylor, Donald W. Fundamentals of Soil Mechanics. John Wiley and Sons. 1949. Third printing.
