Dust Jacket Condition: No Jacket as issued. 1st Edition. ppxviii,420 with 2 folding maps and 3 folding plates these being the plan of Southwold, the Blything Union, S.E. view of the town, Southwold Church and the Sole Bay fight, all in good order. Whilst this is noted as the Second Edition on the titlepage it is clearly a second issue of the first edition of 1839, originally published by F.Skill of Yarmouth with the same list of subscribers on pages vi - xv, printer details (Skill) at the foot of the final leaf and the chocolate brown blind stamped binding. The only difference in content is the interleaving of press notices inserted between the frontispiece folding map and the titlepage. This copy has been sympathetically refurbished with new endpapers and a rebind in the original blind stamped decorative cloth with the original backstrip laid on. The binding is a little rubbed and bumped but is very pleasing and is rarely found in good condition in the original state. Overall a very decent copy of an uncommon variant issue.
