Das Buch: "Neuritis - sensible Neuritis - Neuralgie" enthält wohl die vollständigste Schrifttumsübersicht überhaupt über das Thema möglich ist. Schon diese Übersicht ist für jeden Neuiologen ein Nachschlagewerk, auf das man sich verlassen kann. Alles, was Wartenberg über sein Arbeitsthema schreibt, ist für den Neurologen, Internisten, Neurochirurgen und Orthopäden von größtem Interesse und fordert zum Nachdenken auf. Das Buch will nicht "gelesen", sondern "erarbeitet" werden Mit en ihm eigenen scharfen Gedankengängen setzt er sich mit den Begriffen auseinander. Er hält gegenüber dem neuerlichen Ausdruck "Neuropathie" an dem Begriff "Neuritis sowohl für entzündliche wie für degenerative und traumatische Erkrankungen des Nerven fest. Bezüglich der Neuritis-Neuralgie-Frage kommt er zu dem Schluß, daß das, was Neuralgie genannt wird, nur eine Form von Neuritis ist, und daß daher eine genaue Unterscheidung zwischen Neuritis und Neuralgie nicht gemacht werden kann: "Es gibt keine Neuralgie als besondere klinische Einheit, es gibt aber eine Neuritis mit Schmerzen: die algische Neuritis. Wartenberg hat zum Hauptthema seines Buches die "sensible Mononeuritis gemacht; diese Form der "unvollständigen sensiblen Polyneuritis", vor allem in der Form der "wandernden sensiblen Mononeuritis" steht im Vordergrund. Die Neuritis und die Neuralgie werden von Wartenberg zuerst allgemein besprochen, dann die klinischen Merkmale der einzelnen Neuralgien. Dabei sind Kapitel wie die über die Ischiasprobleme, die Meralgia paraesthetica, die Trigeminusneuralgie, die Facialislähmung, um nur einige zu nennen, von höchstem allgemeinem Interesse für den Kliniker, ja auch für jeden Praktiker. Mit der Wartenberg eigenen Genauigkeit wird in den Kapiteln über die Ischias-Neuritis bewiesen, daß der jahrelang, besonders von Neurochirurgen als einzige Ursache der Ischias-Neuritis angesehene Discusprolaps, also die mechanische Ursache, in Wirklichkeit gegenüber der infektiösen Ursache eine sehr geringe Rolle spielt. Das Buch ist von einem Kliniker auf Grund rein klinischer Untersuchungen und Überlegungen rein klinisch geschrieben. - Wäre es Wartenberg vergönnt worden, länger zu leben, wäre vielleicht ein zweiter Band über die pathologischanatomischen Grundlagen gefolgt. So bleibt zu hoffen, daß Pathologen durch das Buch dazu angeregt werden, diese Ergänzung zu bearbeiten." H.
