Softcover. Condition: Near Fine. Volume 1, Number 1 - Volume 2, Number 2 (published semi-annually). Small quartos. Issues 1-4. Approximately [170]pp. Stapled printed wrappers. Each volume with the ownership signature of noted American psychologist Henry Guze (cofounder, with Albert Ellis, of both the American Academy of Psychotherapists and the Society for the Scientific Study of Sex) on the cover. Volume 1, Number 1 with a short creased tear on the cover repaired with scotch tape and the wrappers lightly toned, otherwise a just about fine set with light wear and a bit of light toning at the spines. The final three issues (in green wrappers) with a large order form for Ellis's work laid in. The first four issues of the cheeky journal dedicated to Albert Ellis's game-changing Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, a technique he developed in the late 1950s and first fully expounded in 1962. Ellis has articles in three of the four issues, but is very present in all of them. Notably, Volume 2, Number 2 publishes the presentation he gave during a public debate with Nathaniel Branden, spokesman for Ayn Rand's objectivist psychology. According to the magazine, the debate drew 1,100 people. (The presentation had to be cut for time and is presented in full here for the first time). Each issue is filled with articles related to REBT and ads for books and other periodicals. In the introduction to a 2001 interview with Ellis in *Psychology Today*, Robert Epstein writes, "Given these techniques [REBT] have now become mainstream, it's safe to say that no individualnot even Freud himselfhas had a greater impact on modern psychotherapy." A run of the first four issues of a journal dedicated to expounding Ellis's Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, still somewhat in its infancy, that would go on to change modern psychology.

A scarce richly illustrated anthology of major English religious poetry, selected and edited by Robert Aris Willmott. An early edition of the work, with 1861 as the earliest record of its being published; the next new edition published in 1862.Scarce.In full morocco prize binding with gilt decorations, borders, title, and fore edges, as well as marbled pastedowns and marbled first free endpapers. Front pastedown bearing the bookseller and stationer's plate of Henry Wright Stationer & Bookseller, New Street, Birmingham which is illustrated with a coat of arms. Inscription to the second front free endpaper reads 'Frank W. Elkington, a Remembrance from Edwin Laundry Xmas. 1868.' Beautifully illustrated throughout with monochrome vignettes including a frontispiece drawn by Holman Hunt, though appears to be missing three illustrations by Harrison Weir intended to appear on pp. 78, 79; these are 'The Only One -- The Earth', 'The Only One -- The Air', and 'The Only One -- The Sea'. Engraved by The Brothers Dalziel, who started London's largest and most influential wood engraving firm in the Victorian period, a golden age of British illustration. This is a lovely anthology of English religious poetry by some of the greats, including Elizabeth Barrett Browning's 'The Weakest Thing', John Donne's 'Death', and John Milton's 'Morning Prayer in Paradise'. Selected, edited, and with contributions from Robert Aris Willmott, an English cleric and author. In full morocco binding with gilt decorations. Externally, boards smart with good colour and gilding bright, just the odd small mark or evidence of rubbing. Some dulling to the spine, and rubbing along the joints and to the raised bands which has resulted in loss of leather, as well as to the bottom fore edge. Slight bumping to corners. Marbled pastedowns and marbled free endpapers bright and clean. Front pastedown has bookseller and stationer's plate of Henry Wright Stationer & Bookseller, New Street, Birmingham illustrated with a coat of arms. Inscription to third front free endpaper reading 'Frank W. Elkington, a Remembrance from Edwin Laundry Xmas. 1868.' Hinges strained. Internally, some spotting throughout, not impacting text. Very Good. book.
