Taken from the perspective of the surveyor, Navvy, his family, and the local populace, this is an amazing record displaying the impact of building a new railway had on an otherwise untouched landscape. The images are also seen in their original sepia form, without recourse to modern-day toning. The sixty-four pages portray what is intended to be the first of a three-part work on the Meon Valley Railway. This first volume covers the early years from 1899 through to 1903.

Red leather corners and spine ends exhibit moderate wear with heavy chipping. 2" tear with chipping and creasing to the upper hinge of the front cover. Smaller tear with chipping to the lower edge of the front cover. Moderate chipping and wear on hinges. Light wear on edges. Moderate shelf wear and soiling to black covers. Inside front hinge is cracked but still attached. Text, inside front and back covers, ffep's and bfep's are yellowed due to age. Otherwise clean and unmarked. Light soiling and yellowing to page ends. It was resolved in the Senate and House of Representatives of Michigan to compile a report detailing the states involvement in the Civil War. 1000 copies went to State officers, boards, Legislature etc. 500 copies for the general publics use. Details the raising of the troops, financial statements, flags of Michigan with very details descriptions of every infantry and cavalry brigade assembled. All books are individually examined and described. Never ex-lib unless stated.

Focuses on the operational years of what was a rural backwater, again using much previously unseen material. The years featured are from 1904 to 1955, although right from the start the owning company, the LSWR, must have realized that the line could never attract business on its own. Indeed, economy started as early as 1922, after which came a slow decline tempered with a brief respite when Droxford became the scene of a high-level conference in preparation for D-day. All these, and many more aspects of what was a truly charming railway are covered in detail.
