A transcription of the most interesting of the Spanish Town Papers, nearly a thousand bundles of sailing-ship documents (log books, letters, and ships' papers) taken as prizes by the Royal Navy and British privateers from American vessels during the War of Independence and left for almost two hundred years in the archives at Spanish Town, Jamaica. Among them are a clearance paper bearing the signature of George Washington, reproduced in facsimile, and a note from the young Horatio Nelson. Edited with a commentary by the British novelist E. Arnot Robertson, with photographs of the documents by H.E. Turner; includes appendices.
