The first book contains several treatises which were published together in 1773; their original English titles run as follows: "Of the Strange Subtilty of Effluviums", "New Experiments, To Make Fire and Flame Ponderable", "Additional Experiments, about Arresting and Weighing of Igneous Corpuscles" and "A Discovery Of the Perviousness of Glass To Ponderable Parts of Flame". The second book is a translation of "New Experiments Physico-Mechanicall, Touching The Spring of the Air, and its Effects" (1660). Antiqua typeface; both title pages feature printer's device; other pages are decorated with large headpieces and initials with figural motifs. Provenance: The title page contains an ownership note of the Hajek Monastery near Prague ("Pro Conventu Hajecensi Anno 1731"). A sheet with a elaborate pen anatomical drawing of the eye (18th century?) is inserted into the copy.
