It is the oldest monastic rule in the Western Church, and outlines rules surrounding chastity, poverty, obedience, detachment from the world, the apportionment of labour, fraternal charity, prayer, fasting, abstinence, and caring for the sick. The present volume is based on a sixteenth century transcript of Robertus Richardinus' exegesis. The British historian and polemicist George Gordon Coulton lectured at the University of Cambridge and was known for his numerous works on medieval history.
