It depicts the society on the fictional island of Utopia, with details of its religious, social and political customs. This is the 1st edition of the English Reprints edition. Between 1868 and 1871, Edward Arber edited a 30 volume series of significant early books and manuscripts, published by A Murray under the English Reprints name.

Also the end papers with the same speckled design and top page edges are gold gilt. A superb Victorian book that has the Armorial bookplate of the Audenham House, Herts. [Gibbs Family after 1671] on the inside of the front cover. It then went to a university library - there's minimum evidence of this.
