Remigio Roccella (1829-1916), un appassionato lessicografo e notaio a Piazza Armerina, fu uno dei primi a studiare questo "gergo" locale raccogliendo in questo vocabolario non meno di 12000 voci, allora d'uso corrente nella comunità piazzese, delle quali fornì pronuncia e significato.
