Travail novateur, qui a pour but, comme l'explique Glenard dans la préface, d'étudier la physiologie des mouvements intestinaux par la méthode de la circulation artificielle (perfusion intestinale), d'enregistrer ces mouvements par la cinématographie et d'étudier les transformations de ces mouvements sous l'influence de divers agents (adrénaline, peptone, bicarbonate de soude, opium, .). Il s'agit probablement de l'une des premières applications du cinéma à la physioloie. Roger Glénard, qui était le fils de Frantz (spécialiste de la ptose viscérale), fut à la fois docteur ès sciences naturelles et docteur en médecine.
