Nellie Smith (1860-1924) was the wife of Joseph West Smith and they moved from Utah to Snowflake, Arizona, as newlyweds in 1879. Smith served as a first counselor in the YWMIA in the Eastern Arizona Stake and first counselor in ward and stake Relief Society in Snowflake (1880), and supervised Relief Society sisters to produce bandages and knit goods during World War I. Joseph West Smith (1859-1944) was a prominent early Mormon pioneer, business owner, and community leader who spent the majority of his life helping to build and establish the historic town of Snowflake, Arizona.
