Ha sido a través del estudio de estos resultados de la tecnología antigua, así como de las actividades humanas, que los arqueólogos han logrado abstraer las normas y temas que componen la cultura andina y reconstruir, hasta donde es posible, a través de analogías, el proceso cultural de los pueblos antiguos que en el curso de 20 mil años domesticaron el espacio andino. La serie de artículos que integran este volumen están destinados a ofrecer, desde diferentes ángulos, la complejidad y eficacia de las tecnologías que desarrolló el antiguo hombre peruano y, en consecuencia, el grado en que benefició los recursos disponibles. Al examinar la sociedad andina encontramos, no obstante que ciertas categorías de la tecnología son universales que el hombre antiguo del Perú desarrolló, a su manera, algunas técnicas para la acumulación o producción de alimentos, para la edificación de viviendas y la confección de vestidos, para la fabricación de instrumentos y recipientes, y para el transporte de sus pertenencias.
