The stories, including "Les Deux Pêches" and "L'Enfant des Grenadiers de la Garde". reflect the period's emphasis on linguistic immersion and cultural storytelling as a teaching tool. The illustrations by H. L. Drucklieb and John W. Cloth worn at corners and spine ends with small frays, mild fading, and a few light stains. Méras (1884-1955) was an American linguist and professor of French at Teachers College, Columbia University, known for pioneering communicative teaching methods in French instruction. Suzanne Roth, of the Lincoln School of Teachers College, collaborated with Méras on several widely adopted textbooks combining cultural context with vocabulary building and graded reading.
