First Edition
1st ed. Paperback wide trade, very good condition, black & white drawings, maps, pages lightly toned, minor edgewear, autograph (editorâs owner's written name). 225 pp. Mary Wallis was the pious and eccentric wife of Captain Benjamin Wallis, the American skipper of ships that conducted extensive trading with the high Fijian chiefs during 1844 to 1849. This is the journal of the third voyage now appearing for the first time. This journal has a vivid account of 'beche de mer' fishing on the northeastern coasts of New Caledonia in 1853. The journals have been edited by David Routledge to make them easily accessible to the modern reader, and supported with an introduction and endnotes.
