Cloth. Condition: Good. No Jacket. First Edition. Scuffing/minor damage to top and bottom of spine and corners. Interior cracking at spine on rear cover but holding quite fast, elsewise a clean, tight copy. 69 black-and-white photographs and drawn illustrations (many full page) with accompanying descriptive captions. From the Preface: "There have been many books written on the subject of Arctic Exploration, chiefly historical works. But, in many respects, we believe "The White World" will be found by its readers to be something unique in Polar literature. Twenty-two famous living explorers have given their personal experiences and have described what interested them most in the Far North, that great region of silence and mystery. The articles are, so to speak, human documents, in which are embodied all the pathos, all the humor, all the tragedy of the expeditions, which, with extraordinary courage and amidst unparalleled sufferings, have attempted to reach the North Pole." Brainard, U.S.A.; POLAR HOSPITALS by Henry Biederbick; AN ARCTIC BEAR HUNT by Francis Long; SUPERSTITIONS OF THE ESKIMO by Middleton Smith; THE DAILY WORK OF AN ARCTIC EXPLORER by Dr. Frederick A.
