Art / Print / Poster Signed
No Binding. Condition: Near Fine. Description This rare and important lithograph is 23 x 29 cm within the borders of the mount. Signed in the lithograph and also hand signed and dated. Not stuck down, loosely attached to mount. Not framed. Lithograph is in excellent condition. The stone lithograph is hand signedi and hand dated 1950 in gold paint. The portrait is possibly that of a young Elizabeth II, although it may be another young woman. In 1947 the Princess Elizabeth had been on the Royal Tour to South Africa and had a very high profile in the country at that time, when we still very much part of the British Empire. Her hair style during that tour was similar to this depiction. Full and wavy and tied back off the ear. Three years after the lithograph, in 1953, Princess Elizabeth became Elizabeth II. A year after the 1947 royal tour, Rupert Shephard came out to be Professor of Fine Art at the University of Cape Town. Rupert Shephard ( 1909 - 1992 ) was born in London England, studied at the Slade, and resided in South Africa from 1948-63 during which he was Professor of Fine Art and Director of the Michaelis in Cape Town. He returned in 1963 to England where he became a celebrated full time painter and artist. His paintings fetch high prices and his lithographs are rare and of high quality. Signed by Author(s).
