Prima rara edizione di questo interessante repertorio biografico rinascimentale, che raccoglie numerose notizie su uomini e donne della storia antica, personaggi della mitologia e della letteratura classica; a margine sono riportate le fonti antiche delle notizie. Il nostro esemplare manca del ritratto inciso del Ruscelli. Ieronimo Ruscelli (1504-1566) fu letterato e poligrafo, attivo soprattutto a Venezia, dove fu curatore di numerose edizioni di classici italiani (suo il primo commento all'Orlando Furioso). Il volume Indice degl'uomini illustri fu pubblicato postumo nel 1572 dal Comino, di cui appare la bella marca tipografica al frontespizio (un albero di palma con tre putti col motto Digna feret premia constans animus) Numero di tavole: 0 pp.(4),172 carte altezza 19.5 larghezza 14 Esemplare in condizioni molto buone.Legatura in piena pergamena con titoli calligrafici al dorso a quattro nervi: tracce di sporco, lievi segni di usura e abrasioni ai piatti e al dorso. Annotazione d'epoca al margine inferiore del contropiatto anteriore.Tagli spruzzati, tagli di testa leggermente scuriti.Formula collazionale: a4, A-Z4, AA-VV4.Carte in condizioni molto buone con ampi margini laterali ed inferiori. Gora di umidità che interessa gli angoli inferiori esterni delle prime carte fino al quaterno K (ad esclusione di alcuni fascicoli che non sono compromessi). Carte dei quaterni T e V particolarmente brunite. Da segnalare un piccolo refuso tipografico: la carta FF2 è indicata come F2. Minuscola macchia marrone in HH4. The maps of the first five editions of Ruscelli are printed from the same copper plates of Valgrisi and based on the G. Gastaldi edition of 1548. Illustrated with 60 double page copper engraved maps and several woodcuts in text. Whereof 23 Ptolemy maps and 37 'modern' map, including 2 world maps (one Ptolemy/Shirly 109, one modern/Shirley 110), 6 maps of America (South America, Mexico with Florida, Brazil, east coast of North America, Haiti, Cuba), 25 European maps (including the North-Atlantic map with parts of Labrador), 9 maps of Africa and 19 maps of Asia.
