Libro in perfette condizioni di nuovo / Brand new -- In numerose chiese ticinesi destano tuttora grande in…teresse i coloratissimi frontali (paliotti) d'altare, che di primo acchito sembrano intarsi di marmo o "commessi fiorentini". Si tratta invece di paliotti in scagliola intarsiata, manufatti eseguiti con grande maestria secondo particolari tecniche basate sull'uso di materiale gessoso, morbido - la scagliola appunto - steso su lastre di supporto appositamente preparate. La tecnica trova ampia applicazione a partire dal Seicento per l'esecuzione di paliotti grazie alla sua (re)invenzione in Emilia, da dove si diffonde rapidamente a molte regioni dell'Italia settentrionale e al Canton Ticino: un'alternativa agli intarsi di pietre dure di tradizione fiorentina, più economica e tecnicamente meno difficile, ma ugualmente di grande effetto. Nella regione dei Laghi la tecnica è documentata dalla fine del Seicento, in ambito ticinese prevalentemente nel Settecento, con paliotti prodotti da attivissime botteghe locali che sviluppano un estroso quanto individuale linguaggio decorativo che abbina sacro e profano. La mostra proposta dalla Pinacoteca Züst di Rancate e i testi di approfondimento contenuti nel catalogo, che accompagnano una scelta di pezzi significativi, pongono l'accento sulla specificità delle scagliole ticinesi rispetto a quelle italiane: lo sfasamento temporale tra le due produzioni consente infatti a quella ticinese di risentire del mutato clima culturale.
