Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Memoir of the Life of Rev. Burchard Villiger of the Society of Jesus by Rev. John J. Ryan, S.J., published in 1906. A biographical account of the life and ministry of the Jesuit missionary and educator Rev. Burchard Villiger, tracing his vocation, pastoral labors, and contributions to the growth of the Society of Jesus in the United States during the nineteenth century. Drawing upon correspondence, contemporary records, and personal recollections, the work chronicles Villiger's missionary activities, educational endeavors, spiritual formation, and devotion to the Jesuit ideal of service, while providing a valuable glimpse into the expansion of Catholic institutions and religious life in America. An especially appealing association copy, inscribed by Rev. J. M. O'Sullivan, S.J., a Jesuit priest noted for his ministry and correspondence concerning Native American Catholic missions in the Pacific Northwest, as a presentation gift to another individual. Provenance is further enhanced by the ownership markings of the Sisters' library at Sacramento's Mercy Hospital, reflecting the volume's place within an institutional Catholic collection. Hardcover with embossed lettering. Shelfwear to corners and ends with rubbing to covers and remnants of an old library label on the spine. Bookplate removed from the front endsheet, resulting in a small area of damage to the blank leaf. Uncommon. …
