Contact seller5-star seller[World War II] Letter from GI and an original World War II Safe Conduct pass. Letter is 3 pages. Safe Conduct Pass: 5" x 8" inches. A safe conduct pass was a surrender pass for German soldiers, dropped over German lines. In part, ". The German soldier who carries this safe conduct is using it as a sign of his genuine wish to giv…e himself up. He is to be disarmed, to be well looked after, to receive food and medical attention as required, and to be removed from the danger zone as soon as possible." With a printed signature of Eisenhower. The pass was enclosed in the GI's letter as a keepsake for his family in California. The letter was written on the day following President Roosevelt's death, and the GI reflects that "going out at the the peak of his career will make him one of the great figures in Am. History (50 years from now)." He is set to be transferred to England, and is in good spirits with the war nearing its close (which it would 5 months later), though is troubled by the uncertainties of the post-war state of affairs. Letter also comes with its original posted envelope. The safe conduct pass is in near fine condition, with folds but no apparent paper damage. Page 1 of the letter has some minor chipping in top, but overall is in very good condition. An attractive pair of WWII memorabilia.
