Fori di tarlo al margine delle pagine iniziali e qualche brunitura. Opera molto rara, sconosciuta a Graesse e Brunet. Luigi Bonaparte (1778-1846), fratello di Napoleone I, dal 1806 al 1810 Re d'Olanda, visse poi sotto il nome di "Conte Saint-Leu". (Cfr. Garollo I, 305). Book.

Facsimile di autografo e motto in olandese tradotto in francese col quale l'autore dà approvazione all'edizione. Fratello cadetto di Napoleone, Luigi ne fu aiutante di campo in Italia ed Egitto e ambasciatore in Russia.

In apertura facsimile in litografia di lettera declaratoria che attesta l'autenticità delle opere dell'autore; aggiunta a penna all'epoca la dicitura "Fay ce que doy, advienne que pourra". Brossura edit. stampata. Qualche fioritura e velatura di umidità e tracce di polvere, ma es. intonso. (12471) Opera non comune scritta da Luigi Bonaparte (1778-1846) con l'indicazione "Florence, le 26 mai 1828", , fratello di Napoleone e marito di Ortensia Beauharnais, re d'Olanda dal 1806 al 1810, e padre di Napoleone III. Colto letterato e poeta, Napoleone lo rimosse dal trono olandese e si rifugiò in Austria, non senza rimpianto. Qui egli confuta la voluminosa opera di Walter Scott, Life of Napoleon Bonapartepubblicata in 9 volumi nel 1827, e ribatte puntualmente alle ricostruzioni storiche di W. Scott, difendendo la memoria di Napoleone dai falsi storici, e denunciando infine il trattamento che gli fu inflitto per 6 anni nell'isola di Sant'Elena. Malgrado la dicitura "Seconde édition", si tratta in realtà di una nuova tiratura della prima edizione di Trouvé, cosa che dimostra il successo che ebbe l'opera sotto la Restaurazione. Service de l?aide de camp? to a F. Chasserieau (?) about the manuscript.Louis Bonaparte (1778-1846) brother of Napoleon, was in 1806 appointed king of Holland. He was however troublesome and when Napoleon merged Holland with France in 1810 Louis abdicated. He settled as comte de Saint-Leu in Graz and after 1815 he lived in Italy writing historical works. He is father to Charles Louis Napoleon, the Empereur Napoleon III. Jacques Marquet de Montbreton de Norvins (1769-1854) was politican and historical writer. His ?Histoire de Napoléon? was published in 1827 and was a major success. Louis Bonaparte?s reply was published by J. Bousquet in 1834 as ?Observations de Louis Bonaparte, Cte de St-Leu, sur L'Histoire de Napoléon, par M. de Norvins".Count Christophe Michel Roguet (1800-77) was marchal and first adjutant to Napoleon III. ( 1824 ), in-8°, oblong format, 19 x 26,5 cm, (6)nn pp ( aquatint title , aquatint portrait, engraved facsimile of the Hortense's handwriting) + 15 pp + (48) nn pp (complete). Bound in contemporary red half roan, boards covered with marbled paper, smooth spine decorated with some gilt lines and with the intitials ''L.N.'' beneath a crown with 8 pearls. Binding with some wear, top and lower end of spine with some loss of leather, joints weak and partially split, interior with some foxing. In all still an acceptable copy with a technically sound binding. The last part of the book (48 nn pp ) consists of 12 full page aquatint engraving made by W. Read of drawings made by Hortense. The opposite page contains an engraving with the text and the score of a song composed by Hortense. Rare, we found only two copies in the OCLC catalogue ( British Library OCLC n° 498851957 - and in a Leipzig library). There was another edition in 1832 published by Colburn & Bentley which is more frequently found. The preface and the biography are written ( in French) by Count A.L.C. de Lagarde). The initials on the spine pose an identification problem. Could they be of L[ouis] N[apoleon], the future French emperor Napoleon III and son of the author ?[ Hortense - queen of Holland - Songs - Music - French - 19th c. ].
