Si le début de sa chronique est un abrégé de celle d'Enguerrand de Monstrelet, il se développe par la suite en ajoutant beaucoup à son modèle, notamment des actes diplomatiques. Oeuvre certes partiale d'un bourguignon farouche, l'ouvrage est important et présenté pour la première fois dans son intégralité, après les publications partielles par Le Laboureur puis par Buchon.
