(10970) Prima edizione di questo "poème philosophique", che fu preceduto nel 1784 dal Poème des Causes Finales & de la Direction du Mal, che sviluppano in successione le riflessioni filosofiche sul male fisico, metafisico e morale, che l'autore inserisce in una sorta di unico grande disegno della Provvidenza, concludendo le sue riflessioni con una visione "consolatoria" dello sviluppo del genere umano e del sistema della natura; una riflessione sulla natura che si apre soprattutto alle visioni delle Alpi e del Jura. Dopo la dedicatoria a "Monsieur de Lamoignon de Malesherbes Ministre d'État", il lungo discorso preliminare sviluppa la visione filosofica dell'autore, e saluta con gioia "la grand révolution qui s'opère en France sous le ministère de l'immortel Necker". Emanuel Salchli (1740-1817), membro di un'ampia famiglia di teologi e pastori protestanti, fu professore a Berna, e grande estimatore di Haller.
