Vintage reference photograph of actor Larry J. Blake from the 1938 film, with a mimeo snipe on the verso. From the archive of noted Hollywood still photographer Ray Jones. Based on the short story "If You Break My Heart" by Steve Fisher. Sally Eilers stars as a nurse, whose brother, shortly after being released from prison, is shot and killed in a shootout between a criminal gang and the police. Larry J. Blake, a police officer, is accused of shooting him but knows he didn't do it, and sets out to prove it, both to clear his name and because of his feelings for Eilers. The seated portrait is circa early 1930s, and includes a Fox Films stamp crediting photographer Ray Jones and a mimeo snipe on the verso. The other two photographs circa mid-1930s, include two Universal Pictures stamps on the versos, one crediting photographer Ray Jones, and one noting Eilers. From the archive of noted Hollywood still photographer Ray Jones. A Mack Sennett "discovery," Sally Eilers was a popular actress in pre-Code comedies and crime melodramas, such as the 1931 film "Quick Millions," with Spencer Tracy and George Raft. By the 1940s Eilers' popularity had waned, and in 1950 she made her final film appearance in the Western "Stage to Tuscon." One photo 7.75 x 9.75 inches, the other 8 x 10 inches. Near Fine overall.
