[From Introduction] The exhibition on "Meditations on Life" will present some 50 pieces of artwork resuming the artistic career of Sam SHEE, begun nine years ago. Under the theme of Passage and Passion, these paintings will show three major aspirations of this American artist with Taiwanese origin: symbolism with philosophical and religious inspiration, floral painting with Asian influence, and a more personal art of portrait. Since he began oil painting, Shee's artistic approach has been to reign in both the passage and the passion. A notion of time. where past and future are inextricably mixed, the transition from one state to another, from youth to wisdom and the passage through biblical or pagan rituals. But also passion, Christlike or loving, an out pouring emotion as well as an explosion of sufferings. . . What matters after all is grasping the spirit of the canvases beneath the texture, the colors and the forms. Signed by Illustrator.
