Roberto Sambonet si è iscritto al Politecnico di Milano che non ha ultimato per dedicarsi alla pittura. Nel 1947 tiene la sua prima mostra. In Brasile incontra P.M. Bardi e con lui collabora al Museo di San Paolo come progettista per tessuti, abiti e accessori. Nel 1953 lavora con Aalto. Rientrato in Italia è progettista grafico per la Rinascente, la Sambonet, per la quale progetta vasellame in acciaio e imballaggi, e altre società. Espone quadri e disegni al Museo di San Paolo (1949), a Milano alla Galleria del disegno (1960), a Vercelli (Palazzo dei Centori, 1962), a Milano (Galleria Profili 1963, Pater 1966 e Il Milione 1969). Art director della rivista Zodiac è presente nel 1956 alla Trien nale di Milano, di cui nel 1960 fa parte della giunta tecnica. Nel 1970 riceve il Compasso d'Oro. Book.
