Illustrated with black and white photos, floor plans and other architectural drawings. A history of the architecture of plantation homes and churches in the Carolina Low Country completed between 1697 and 1865, including important examples of ones that survived on or near the coast between the Pee Dee and Savannah Rivers. GOOD jacket on a VERY GOOD book. Minor soiling and toning the jacket, heavier along the spine. Minor creasing and wrinkling. Light edgewear to the book. Interior clean and solid. Slipcase scuffed and worn, with the top and bottom splitting along the hinges.

Third edition limited to 1500 copies (per publisher's statements upon copyright page and rear colophon). Lacks slipcase. No dust jacket (i.e. lacking). [2], 244 pages. Hardcover: H 33cm x L 25.5cm. Light brown cloth minimally decorated with black lettering to front board and spine; light soiling and sunning/fading to cloth; bumping to boards' top fore-edge corners. Foxing to text block edges. Two ink signatures presumably of past owners at top of front free endpaper; some foxing to several initial and rear leaves but interior pages overall remain clean. Binding is firm. A very good+ copy. Classic review of notable structures in South Carolina's coastal lowcountry region, the first edition of which was published in 1938. Features b/w photographic plates by Charles Richard Banks, Ben Judah Lubschez (1881-1963), and the remarkable Frances Benjamin Johnston (1864-1952) whose magnificent images complete similar architectural monographs regarding North Carolina and Tidewater Virginia.
