First Edition
Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Elephant Folio, 44.5 by 34.5 cm. N.d. Circa 1910. 14 pp, 28 plates, eight of which have full color, and another eight which have partial color -- six of these are blue and a yellow gold, two, just blue and white. Overwhelmingly the porcelain is neo-classical in design, with an emphasis on border designs. Here and there one can find a Rococo flourish -- it's not as if instantly one fashionable style is replaced whole by the aesthetics of the seceding movement. While the designs were applied to porcelain, one can see the same designs as architectural detailing as well as being applied to other areas of the decorative arts. The plates also assiduously adhere to neo-Classical notions of symmetry. Finally, in the designs one sees not infrequently the influence of the then relatively new discoveries from the excavations at Pompeii. Rebacked, original spine laid on. Leather rubbed along the joints and raised bands. Binding edges generally worn. Leaves within age toned, touches of light soiling here and there, but generally clean. Half Morocco. Marbled pastedown on boards.
