Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. First Edition. A quite interestingi illustrated, late Cold War era Soviet publication celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Soviet Militia. The first third of the book celebrates the early history of the Soviet militia featuring a narrative accompanied by period photographs -- particular focus is the milita during World War II. The final two-thirds of the book presents a heart-warming portrait -- heavy on the color photographs -- of the milita circa the mid 1980s. More than 200 photos, often casual, portray militia officers in myriad helpful and congenial activities throughout the Soviet. The militia brings safety and helpful common sense to all manner of urban settings. In the country, the militia is protecting the environment and helping animals. Outside of offical duties, milita officers participate in vigorous sports and relax with guitar-playing young people in a park. The book has somewhat interesting association with previous ownership stamps from American cold warrior Ray Cline, deputy director of the CIA in the early 1960s and longtime head of the Center for Strategic and International Studies at Georgetown University. 205 pages, gray cloth, 8-3/4" by 11", illustrated. Text in Russian (cyrillic) published in the Soviet Union.
