Seller: Yesterday's Book Shop, CORVALLIS, OR, U.S.A.
First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: VG-. Ruth Hambidge (illustrator). 1st Edition. See photos for condition details: oblong hardcover, measuring 7.875 inches in height and 10.875 inches in length. There are also two pages from a 1911 edition of Folk-Songs for Boys and Girls of two songs by Mabel Lyon Sturgis: "There's a Little Wheel-a-Turnin' in my Heart" (labeled Negro Folk Melody) and Swing Low Sweet Chariot (labeled American Negro Folk-Song). These have been placed in a separate protective sleeve but will stay with the book when sold. The book exterior shows some scuffing and soiling with a small dent to the board on the front upper left edge area. There are also some scratches on the front, mainly the lower right quadrant in the corners show bumps and wear which go through the cloth and expose the backing. Internal binding is good, no hinge cracks. Pages are mildly toned and there is some scattered foxing, smudges and spotting, although nothing serious. The only handwriting found in the book is on the front end page, upper corner, where the single name of "Roger" is penned. This is the version with the song Little Black Sambo present on pages 39-47. The book grades as VG-but the magazine page ephemera as a condition grade much lower, as seen in the photos.
