Contact seller4-star sellerEdo [1827], Yamato Yoshino. Large Kawaraban, print: 46.9 x 33 cm., sheet: 49 x 35 cm., black outline woodblock printed on thick white Washi paper, center fold, rebacked, a few minor old verso mended worm holes, now solid, a very good example. . *** **** *** . . A LOVELY JAPANESE GARDEN VIEW . . .SHOWING THE VARIOUS PLANTS, LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN . . . AN EPHEMERAL ADVERTISING KAWARA BAN [BROADSIDE] POSTER . . * This poster was an advertisement for the superbly famous mountain and garden. . Illustrating the elaborate Japanese garden architecture, design & landscape. A lovely woodblock printed poster, in black & white line drawings. . Per the note in the text, TAIRA KOREMORI lived there in his last days. TAIRA no Koremori was a Samurai who lived towards the end of the Heian period. He was a legitimate son of TAIRA no Shigemori. . *** Color photos are posted to our website. . *** RARITY: This ephemeral advertisement poster was not designed to last very long. It was tacked up to trees, public places, walls and posts to inform the public that the gardens were open to visitors and pilgrims. . These posters were at the mercy of the weather, rain, snow, wind and the majority were for ever lost to the attrition rate, few if any survived. . This example was nicely preserved in a book of several other advertisement posters. . *** Color photos are posted to our website. . *** CONDITION: . A very nice example, woodblock printed. As usual for a Kawaraban [Deluxe broadside], it has a mild center fold. . The print has contemporary re-backing, mending a few old small worm holes. It is now firm and solid. . There is a mild couple of feint small brownish stains in lower right area, not of major distraction. . The paper remains very bright and clean. Far and above average condition for an item nearly 200+ years old. . The print size is 'double-Oban' and folds down to be ca. 24.5 x 35 cm. . *. …
